Our Vision
Strong Community Wellness Care in Zimbabwe.
Centre for Peace was begun in 2018 as a vision to complement the work of the Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) in a manner that enhances the national healing processes beyond the mandate and tenure of the NPRC.
Centre for Peace began in 2018 with a healing event celebrating the legacy of a community that promoted peace and harmony in Umzingwane District. It was a heart-warming church and community event facilitated by Centre for Peace, ZCA, SAWIDA, and the then NPRC.
Thoba - Complimenting Wellness Efforts
Thoba is a consortium that seeks to strengthen wellness efforts in the churches and communities in Zimbabwe.
Thoba is a Ndebele term for warm therapy to treat muscle aches, inflammation, and wounds. The term also applies to soothing emotional pain and the quietening of self in humility.
This captures our heart to promote informal approaches to mental health that are sustainable first-line responses, improving early detection and providing alternatives to specialized services.
Our approach involves working with the church, community members, and mental health professionals to develop community-driven tailored programs that are responsive to community needs. We aim to enhance the coordination and integration of formal and informal caregiving services.
The consortium serves as a technical partner to churches and communities, providing consultative forums, training and capacity building, counseling, referral support, research, and documentation.
Thoba participated in this highly interactive symposium held by our partners, Pickled Wellness to promote community-driven solutions in mental health care.
